In fact, positive methods win hands down regarding the success one will get what working with their dog. Never will I even talk about promoting some type of dog obedience training methods that will be violent or harmful in any way.

Having said that above, let us now look at a rather simple way for training your dog to stop chewing up everything which leads to terrible destruction of your possessions. You'll find various approaches that talk about stopping your dog from chewing so whether you use this method for your success or some other method, I encourage you to use whatever method will work best for your dog. The one that works well will be the right one for your situation.

First, you'll need an important dog tool known as a dog crate or cage that your puppy cannot exit from. This great will be of major benefit not only for preventing your dog from chewing but for many other reasons. However, in this instance, it will help by containing your dog away from your stuff while you are away from home. This will be a very important tip in preventing your dog from chewing your stuff.

Second, you'll need to purchase many chewable dog toys and other items that you will place inside his cage. This will allow your dog to hopefully change his habits of chewing your stuff to chewing his own toys. You will note that puppies will go through a stage of teething in younger years that gets a dog to want to chew things. Therefore, it will be difficult to absolutely stop your dog from chewing due to his teething.

Third, whenever your dog will be out of his crate, continually be with him at all times in order to instruct him when he feels the urge to chew on something. You won't have to do this forever but initially you will need to do it. Your instruction for him to not chew on numerous items should be “leave it”.

You'll need to let him approach an item with the expectation of chewing on it. As he goes for the item, say “leave it” in a low commanding voice. At the same time you may need to claw him on the neck quickly. What I mean by this is shaping your hand as a claw or mouth and then giving him a little bite in the neck with your hand. You don't want to hurt the dog but just show him you are serious. You have to know that if your dog was in a pack of dogs, this will be the same thing the dog pack leader would do in order to make a dog back off.

Your job as dog owner has to be acting as the pack leader. Your dog needs someone to be in-charge. If you don't take charge of your dog, he will take charge of you. If your dog does not see you as owner of all the different things inside your house, he will take it upon himself to be owner. That's why he sees it to be okay to chew things inside your home. Whenever he starts to chew, he takes ownership of it. As pack leader, you need to take ownership of everything in your house and around. Your dog needs to know that you are in control. This will be a major part of getting your dog to stop chewing on your possessions.
