Dog Collar Leash

Dog Collar Leash: What types of dog leashes are available?

Acquiring the right equipment for successfully training your dog will be of utmost importance. Proper equipment will allow you and your puppy to get all the way through training sessions with much less problems. The most important dog training equipment you will be in order to train your dog well will be a crate, a dog collar, a dog leash and plenty of reward food treats.

However, the most important tools will be a dog collar and leash. The dog collar and leash will be important only for functionality. All the other frills on the leash or collar like fancy designs will not matter whatsoever. Your dog will really not care at all about how well your dog collar and leash look. All that fancy stuff will only be for human satisfaction.

The two main features needed for a dog leash will be comfortably and durability. Others will include having a leash that will be at least 6 feet long that will be made of leather, nylon or strongly weaved cotton. My personal preference for both comfort and durability will be leather. But never purchase a chain leash since it holds the possibility of increasing the chances for one of you getting hurt. A chain leash holds a lot of weight that can't hurt you or your dog have accidentally whipped. It also has the possibility of biting into your hand if your dog suddenly jerked the chain leash.

Purchasing the right collar for your dog means getting one that will fit him firmly yet comfortably. Those that have a toy dog might have difficulty finding an appropriate lightweight collar that will fit him ugly. You might consider looking at the cat collars since they will be at a better size for a toy sized dog.

The cotton weaved collar could be the right choice for your dog. Over time these will have a tendency to soften with usage. One of the benefits of this type of collar and leash will also be a less expensive price compared to nylon or a leather one. If you have a dog that will be in its teething stage, purchasing one of these at a lower price might be best due to your dog possibly chewing through it eventually.

Some people will purchase the retractable dog collar leash for its ability to lessen the chance of tangling. They will also allow your dog much more freedom when you have him on a leash outdoors. However, continually letting your dog wander around on his retractable leash during your walk will be a bad habit to start. Walking your dog should be for one purpose only which is walking your dog. Letting your dog wander around as you walk forward teaches him bad habits. He should always walk with you at your side slightly behind during your walks. This accurately depicts a pack leader and pack member for dogs. Developing part of your relationship with your dog will come from walking your dog. Therefore, don't walk your dog with your retractable leash extended over 4 or 5 feet. There should be some slack in the leash but not too much.
